To see a slideshow of the rehearals and performance of Underdogs, just click on the photo below. Next week, Tapestry, David Ogborn and Glenn James will go to St Jamestown to start another INside Opera session with the KNX Youth Program.

Free Workshop Presentation of SHELTER

PART OF THE CELEBRATE CANADA! PROGRAM
CAST & ORCHESTRA, DISCUSSION & REFRESHMENTS

Port Radium-265.jpg (storybook)Join us for a free workshop presentation of Shelter by librettist Julie Salverson and composer Juliet Palmer. Following the presentation will be a discussion on "the Atomic Highway" as it inspired this developing opera and its context in Canadian history.

The 'highway' refers to the route along which uranium ore travelled from a Northwest Territories mining site to a Port Hope, Ontario refinery. Upon discovering in the 1990's that this same ore was used to build the bombs detonated over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the surviving Dene, First Nation of Deline - (many of whom were employed along the highway from 1942 to 1960) - undertook an extraordinary expedition. Having realized that Japan was the true end of the 'highway', they travelled there to formally apologize to the hibakusa, the survivors.

With support from the "Celebrate Canada Program" at the Department of Canadian Heritage , Tapestry will explore this little known chapter of Canadian history on National Aboriginal Day.
