Nabaz’Mob – Ambient rabbits perform in the Tapestry Studio: A free Luminato Exhibit

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

This week Tapestry’s Ernest Balmer Studio is home to Nabaz’Mob, a free visual arts event for Luminato.

A Nabaztag is a nine-inch-tall Wi-Fi-enabled “ambient device” in the shape of a stylized rabbit. Artist, programming engineer, and designer Antoine Schmitt and composer, film director, multimedia author, and sound designer Jean-Jacques Birgé bring together one hundred of these quirky little creatures – each equipped with flashing lights, moving ears and a built-in speaker – to perform a musical and choreographic score for three voices.

Come by during one of these times:

La Senorita Mundo – A new opera from Njo Kong Kie & Kico Gonzalez Risso

Friday, August 7th, 2009

La Senorita Mundo

A new operatic allegory La Senorita Mundo opens tonight (August 7 at 8pm) at The Theatre Centre in Toronto.

Composer Njo Kong Kie and librettist / director Kico Gonzalez Risso met in 2004 at Tapestry’s Directors’ Lab, both already graduates of Tapestry’s annual LibLab.

Kico stage directed a piece composed by Kong Kie in LibLab that year (the first 5 min of what became knotty together with a libretto by Anna Chatterton). Kong Kie also music directed a piece which Kico stage directed. Such is the collaborative process here at Tapestry…

Subsequently, Kong Kie wrote a song for Kico for his radio cabaret musical Ghost in Love, which was performed in Vancouver.

La Senorita Mundo is the latest collaboration from the pair.  Running 50+ minutes it is part of Toronto’s Summerworks festival and features Tapestry regular Keith Klassen (tenor) and Vilma Vitols (mezzo).

Opera to Go 2009

Friendly reminder here, if you are in the GTA this weekend….

…OPERA TO GO
begins its 4 performance run this Thursday at the Enwave Theatre, Harbourfront Centre.

Four world premieres in one performance: a tea party gone very wrong in ONE LUMP OR TWO, the suspense drama MY MOTHER’S RING, a major surprise in store for THE VIRGIN CHARLIE and a quest for supremacy in THE PERFECT SCREW! There will also be a surprise in store for anyone near the box office part of the lobby about 15 minutes before curtain.

There are a range of ticket offers available:

REGULAR PERFORMANCES
$40 regular tickets and $20 arts worker & student tickets are available for all of our regular performances: March 27 at 8pm, March 28 at 8pm and March 29 at 3pm.

We’ve also got some “birds eye view” seats available for $25, around the stage and between the orchestra and a 2nd stage or “passerelle” where director Tom Diamond has staged some of the action. They are $25 because you might have to turn your head from time to time, but they put you right in the middle of the action and it should be a great experience!

COMMUNITY NIGHT
On Thursday March 26 at 8pm, Tapestry will host a Community Night & Press Opening. All tickets are only $20 for this special performance. Be the first to experience the 2009 short operas and then join us in the Enwave Theatre lobby for a casual post-show reception.

BOX OFFICE
Regular & Student tickets can be purchased at harbourfrontcentre.com or 416.973.4000

Arts Worker rate available by phone or in person – not online, unfortunately.  Sorry!
